Yes! We are finally back in Hot and sunny Singapore from our whirlwind tour of Paris Fashion week. We went to workshop paris, Tranoi, Premiere class and It was a full week of meeting with designers and all the "arty" people and doing product selection. I met some interesting people that made me think and rethink what fashion is. ,what a brand is and how price relates to the brand etc. Mostly, it made me realize once again how tough the fashion industry is. It isn't what people think it is .... a walk in the park. A friend of a friend has just started a clothes fashion line and is trying to make herself known in Paris. So far she has had shown three seasons of collection, with very little response from buyers. Life is strange in that way, everyone is looking for something "fresh" and different, and yet as a buyer you face the constraint of having to make sure that your product really sells. And as a buyer , in all probablity you do not want to take the chance. :( Morever, if the price point is high, you are even highly unlikely to take the chance on a unknown brand.because you are taking an even bigger risk. Hence to take it to a logical conclusion,( this comes with a disclaimer, it is just my personal opinion.) if you are a new designer wanting to break into an already crowded and competive market, you should really lower the price so that the buyer will see "value" in it, and is willing to take the risk. You can do this to break into the high barrier entry, and once customers are "hooked" into your fashion style, you can increase the price little by little; or create a higher luxury line. Hence before you design something, the designer should think of what the customer is willing to pay , and then design according to that constraint instead. Unfortunately or fortunately this is not how designers think, or are trained to think. Somehow, I always find that there is a unspoken rule in most artist mind that "money is evil" and to be profit centred as a goal is somehow ugly. They design with no constraint, and they also have this idealism that they want their product to be associated with the luxury goods like Hermes, hence they price their product in that similiar price range. They fail to see that although their quality and design might be comparable to a brand like Prada or Hermes, they are not known to the public as a luxury brand. I realize more and more how important a brand plays both for luxury brands and for economical ones. It is the story that you are telling about yourself and your product. And if people don't know it, they aint going to buy it. It is as simple as that. Anyway, I really hope the best for my friend's friend, and that she will make her lucky break somehow. It also made me think what is the value that L'ArtiChaut brings? It is time to be introspective about my own business. K and I might be clear, but we are not sure if the public, the customers understand our philosophy. We are selling an ideal , not just a product. We are embracing unique, funky and electic designs that expresses individuality and fun. We can call it affordable beauty , but the idea is that beauty and being chic is available to anyone....Please read our values if you are still unclear about what we believe in. Too much Pink Not really a fashion victim as such here, but I think she's tried a little to hard to co-ordinate her umbrella with her bag Leopardskin Lady I have a feeling that the blue haired lady below is a busker, so she may feel that she has artistic licence to go around looking like a younger, blue haired, skinnier, punkier version of Pat Butcher off EastEnders It's quite hard to see as I caught her getting on the train just as train was about to leave, but she's resplendant in leopardskin bag, skirt, and well, err, ..... leggings. Diamonds are graded by four characteristics: cut, carat (weight), clarity, and color. All four of these properties determine how much a diamond is worth. Cut - What is the proportion of the diamond? Round brilliant diamonds are usually cut with 58 facets. The better proportioned these facets are on the diamond, the more light will be reflected back to the viewer's eye. This is extremely important. When cut properly, the diamond will sparkle more. Diamond cuts are measured by the table percentage, so always ask for it. What exactly are eye jewels you ask? Well, eye jewels are small platinum "jewels" that are surgically implanted under the eye's mucus membrane. The jewels themselves come in different designs such as hearts, shamrocks, moons, and stars (you know, all those elegant symbols that define people's personalities). I suppose they are halfway point between a tattoo and piercing for some people, as the jewels can be removed, but only with another surgery. Doctors warn that the procedure is not only dangerous, but can lead to serious eye problems in the future. However the warnings don't seem to be deterring people as there is currently a waiting list in the Netherlands for the implants with prices ranging from 600$-1200$ American. Your personal style speaks volumes about who you are so let's not blow it after you've spent your hard earned money on the latest new trends!. The key to putting together a great outfit is risky and simple. The rule of thumb is balance and "less is more." Choose one "wow" item and build around it. Let us start with colors. Think of nightfall when it comes to fall color as per Pantone. The colors are very dark and neutral. Black is always in, dominated the runways by far from other colors. Brown known this season as Italian plum is still big. You will see a touch of garnet, spicy orange and purple drab. You may have to look hard, but they will be there. There will also be doe, a taupe color and griffin, good old gray. The color that tops all and is a must have for the season is deep cobalt, otherwise known as navy. Navy is being paired with all of the above including brown. You will see navy sweaters with brown skirts. Black dominated but had a touch of one of the colors above added to the outfit. There was plenty of play with different shades of black; it is not just solid black this season. Find it in shears, embroidery, and used in all different ways. So pack away your blacks and browns from this season and pull them out in the fall. Add to your wardrobe plenty of navy and a touch of gray. There will be a touch of animal prints. Leopard is always a popular choice but zebra is the season's hottest choice. Get a short zebra pencil skirt (along with a black one) with a black or brown sweater or a jacket with faux fur trim; add opaque black tights and knee high boots and you are on your way to being in fashion for the fall.
