Perfect match: work wearable shorts

Perfect match: work wearable shorts
If you have the legs, why not? I found out that many gals feel really good in shorts, some even better than when wearing a skirt. This might have something to do with windy weather which tends to make careless dress wearers feel like Marilyn Monroe in The Seven Year Itch if you know what I mean.

So, yeah for shorts, which can become great office wear if matched with suitable items.

Here I matched the gorgeous pleated trouser shorts (Anthropologie for $68) with a retro printed top (Asos $47,19) and chocolate colored massive wedges (Bluefly $147). Wear a cropped cotton jacket (Shopbop $118) over it for maximum office appeal.

Choose: Big Wedding or Down Payment?

Choose: Big Wedding or Down Payment?
I was reading this very good column by Laura Rowley today about the craziness of weddings and how over-the-top expensive they can be, when I remembered two couples I've known whose parents gave them the choice between a big traditional wedding and a down payment on a house.

Which would you choose?

It's a tough choice, especially if you're talking about the cost of a wedding being $10,000 or $15,000 or even more. Depending on where you live and how much money you have going in to a marriage, that could be a sizable down payment, and an awesome start on your new life together. On the other hand, your wedding day happen only once (at least that's the goal), and forgoing the big reception and bigger memories in favor of cold hard cash could leave you with regrets in the years to come.

Conveniently for this post, my two sets of friends chose differently---one chose the wedding over the house and one the house over the wedding. I've asked the ones who went for the wedding if they have any regrets and of course they say "No way!" But I've never had the courage to ask the ones who went for the down payment if they ever regret it. That seems rude, because it's likely to make them feel there's a judgment in the question, which I'm sure is how I would take it if I were them. So, I don't know what they think of their decision.

What would you do? Or, if you actually did have this decision to make, what did you do?

Celebrity Eyebrows

Celebrity Eyebrows
It seems that women's eyebrows are one of the many areas subject to manipulation and styling for which there is no accepted norm.

Everything from pencil-line thin eyebrows to the horrific shag rug, "Brezhnev Brow" look can be in at any given time.

In my wife's household, of which I'm still a member, whenever she's doing something to her face, makeup for example, it's time for me to stay clear. It's the equivalent of an artist at work and distractions are dealt with in the severest manner.

Celebrities of course do things differently; they engage specialists for everything, eyebrows included.

Currently the Hollywood eyebrow expert is Anastasia, Eyebrowist to the Stars, and you can check out this video of her working her magic.

More Prada Designer Items on Auction

More Prada Designer Items on Auction
Earlier this week (see Exclusive Prada Auction) Prada launched its auction of designer prototypes originally created for the catwalk of the Fall/Winter 2007 season. Three items were included on Monday namely, a Prada designer dress, a Prada designer coat and a pair of Prada designer shoes. Well now three new Prada designer prototypes have been added to this unique Prada auction.

The first item added is the Prada Orange Paillette skirt shown here. This knee-length silk skirt is layered with stripes of orange paillette sequins. The handmade designer skirt is finished with a hem of matching orange cock feathers.

Like the other Prada designs being auctioned, this prototype is absolutely unique as it is the only existing version in this color in existence. A similar Prada design was shown in black paillette for the A/W 07 catwalk collection and I have to say that I would prefer this Prada designer dress in black as it would be much easier to accessorize. I just don't have orange shoes!.

Also added is the sassy sleeveless navy blue, silk radzmire dress shown below. This ultra light Prada designer dress has a trim of dark blue stitching at the neckline and arms. The gorgeous layered skirt is made of a mixture of double cloth, cashgora, and operated wool stripes with contrasting multi colored stitching in green, yellow and royal blue. It also comes complete with a ruffled navy organza petticoat. Drawing on a combination of different styles from various collections, this Prada designer dress is entirely unique and as I say I think it's really sassy.........

Wide-Leg Jeans

Wide-Leg Jeans
What: The wide-leg pant trend is gaining steam, with fuller-cut jeans and trousers, like these at the Gap, popping up everywhere for fall.

What the Fashion heads say: From FabSugar.com: Wahoo! As I predicted, the skinny jean backlash has begun and wide legged jeans are on the rise. Don't get me wrong - I have warmed up to the skinny silhouette, but I am a 70's girl at heart and love the elongating look of a wide legged pant.

What I say: After suffering through scads of skinny jeans, I'm loving this trend towards wide-leg denim. I'm still kicking myself for not buying multiple pairs of the wide leg denim jeans from the now defunct Forth and Towne. There's hardly a jean that's more figure-flattering for all kinds of body types, and the look sets the perfect tone for a casual day at the office (there's something about the skinny jeans that make them not as dressy as wide leg jeans) or a laid back dinner out with your girlfriends. Pair with some cute ballet flats, or a nice pair of heels and it's the ultimate in comfortable chic.........

JCrew Straw Tote for the summer

JCrew Straw Tote for the summer
So as much as I love, love my Kooba bag from the past winter's sample sale, recently as the temperature here in NYC has begun to creep up I started thinking about a good summer bag. I needed something lightweight and that felt a little beachy.

For a week or so I tried to get away with the Kooba bag by tying a palm leaf print Gucci scarf ($20 at Filene's Basement) around on strap, an idea I read once at Closet Therapy. But the scarf slipped around and I was afraid it would fall off so I was back to square one.

One day while walking by the JCrew at Rockefeller Center I spied the large straw tote in the window. It was just what I was looking for: great big size but still lightweight, striped nautical lining, and nice long leather straps that would make it easy to swing over my shoulder. But at the time the bag was full price and I just couldn't justify the cost. Then, as luck would have it, a few weeks later I noticed the bag on sale online. I printed out the online page, and even though the bag was still marked full price in the store the salesperson honored the sale price and I walked out with a smile.

The bag has been perfect for summer and it is a great size to carry all my crap around the city. I can fit everything I need easil without cramming everything in or without my stuff poking out the top. It also comes in a medium size. My only complaint (if this is one) is that the bag is so wide i have to hold it the long way on my lap in the subway or it takes up space on the seats to the left and right of me.........

Would You Wear This Fendi Bag?

Would You Wear This Fendi Bag?
Fendi is one of the ultimate icons of luxury, but this sequin-coated Spy Bag seems a little over the top for us. Is it too flashy or just fashionably sparkly? Vote and then tell us: Would you wear this?

Nice!!!........

Bracelet Cell Phone

Bracelet Cell Phone
Via Sci Fi Tech - Ah, now here's a gadget concept I can get behind. It's a phone in the shape of a bracelet, unfolding so you can hold it up to your face when you get a call and going back into bracelet form when you're done. No need to take up pocket or purse space with this guy. Like all concept devices, the chances of this guy getting made are slim to none, but that doesn't mean something similar won't be coming out eventually. - Adam Frucci

Nixon Lodown is For the Surfer, and not the Web kind

Nixon Lodown is For the Surfer, and not the Web kind
The Nixon Lodown would be a little bit interesting if it allowed you to surf the web with your watch, but there are other products for that. As it is, it does help you surf.

The Nixon Lodown watch contains a database that has all the tidal information for 200 beaches that is good for at least 15 years. That's right, so you can now how the waves are going to be, and then go out surf on them. Fortuantely, the Nixon Lodown is water-resistant up to 100 meters.

The Nixon Lodown is about $90 USD, and comes in black, silver, white, and blue.

Taking solid blouses to a new level

Taking solid blouses to a new level
One of the most usual pieces in every working gal's wardrobe is a blouse, moreover, a blouse in solid color. I have tons of white, sand, blue and black blouses, which are just perfect to wear under a suit, but to be honest, it just isn't fun!

So I decided to take solid blouses to a new, charming level, pairing exciting colors with new lengths. And since it's summer, there's no need for a jacket if the blouse is great, am I right? Here you go, four perfect, bold blouses waiting for you to try them on:

Rocky Beca tunic - A red, really red thingie every girl should have handy, for those days when there just isn't enough laughter and smiles to go round. Available at Intermix for $220 Spritzer V neck - Just the perfect color to get envy eyes from every black suit dressed girl at the office. No jewelry needed for this one! Available at Anthropologie for $78 Acrobat tunic - Coffee bean color goes well with any complexion, and the linen fabric is going to help you combat heat. Available at Bluefly for $44 Bebe silk blouse - The color's called purple rain, but it should look equally good in sunny or stormy weather. Available at Bebe for $69
