IBS Trade Show Highlights: Martin Parsons
Long Hair Styling by Martin Parsons.
And makeup lines? Virtually none to speak of, unless you count mineral makeup lines that no one's heard of and glitter eye shadow. Oh and TiGi makeup was there. Hopefully the upcoming "The Makeup Show" in NYC will give the makeup artist what they want. Product lines and education that is sadly missing. Based in Canada, Martin's presentations are always incredibly professional, filled with amazing fast hair styling tips and hilarious to boot, all wrapped up into one. Martin brings elegance to styling, but his sense of humor makes you want to jump in his chair. And his great styling tricks? I did one the next day on a photo shoot. The 'knot' technique (like tying shoe laces into the hair) that was so easy and pretty, the model wanted to wear it home. Below is a shot similar to what I did, except I did the knots tighter and closer to the head so it was 'tribal' looking......... Posted by: Diana Permalink Source IBS Show Highlights: Damon Roberts
Highlights? Well, he goes by face shapes to determine how soft or strong an arch should be, he loves the Vivant wax for waxing brows and uses tea tree oil ointment from a natural foods market for after waxing / tweezing to calm skin. Oh, and he does (well, the salon does) a whopping 200 eyebrow shapings a day. At $60 each for 10 minutes for wax and tweeze......... Posted by: Diana Permalink Source Designers! Architects! 1. Wear your skirts at the knee with a great pair of shoes to show off one of the most ageless and flattering parts of your body - your legs- they stay looking younger longer. 2. Wear tailored clothes, such as shaped jackets that glide over your tummy and waist. Stay away from boxy, baggy jackets and tops that hang from the bust and add five pounds. 3. The easiest way to put pizzazz into your outfit without looking overdone is to update your shoes and purses. If you carry a purse that looks like your grandmother's - square and boring you'll look outdated. Choose purses in different shapes and colors that will add interest. There are lots of styles and shapes available, the most flattering being a shoulder bag that fits nicely under your arm......... Posted by: Trista Permalink You don't need many choices
"This research examines consumer choice as a decision process that comprises two different stages: selecting an assortment and, subsequently, selecting a particular option from that assortment," explains Alexander Chernev (Northwestern University). Chernev argues that two conflicting goals are in play when we shop: maximal flexibility and minimal decision complexity. When choosing where to shop, we tend to opt for maximal flexibility, preferring to have a large assortment of options. However, when test subjects were asked to focus on the idea that a larger number of options - say, at a Wal-Mart - would make the final decision of what to purchase more complicated, they tended to revise their original choice and go for a smaller, less varied assortment. Moreover, there is an additional danger to offering too a number of options, even if it does draw people into the store. As Chernev explains: ".....increasing the size of the assortment tends to complicate the decision process and decrease the overall probability of purchase"......... On the very heavy flash site, you can also read a manga drawn by a 16 years old intern which explains you why "Japan is so coooool", tells you all about manga, and concludes with "It's his hair that really gives the manga hero its style", enticing you to try it for yourself with the news Garnier Manga gel. All that with a midi faux-Japanese music in the background of course (you can turn it off, but I suggest you keep it loud so that it really feels like Shibuya). I just closed the window when I couldn't take it anymore and my computer was getting all slow just because of that flash movie............. However, most people don’t realize that getting an oral piercing also places them at risk for developing a fatal infection or, in some cases, a mini-tongue, according to a report in the January/February 2006 issue of General Dentistry, the AGD’s clinical, peer-reviewed journal. In the report, a young woman’s pierced tongue developed a large, round lump adjacent to the piercing. The lump, which she called her “second tongue,” didn’t hurt, nor was it infected, but it was growing. This mass was determined to be a scar tissue formation. Improvement was noted after oral hygiene was increased (frequent use of mouthwash and hydrogen peroxide mouthwash) and the tongue stud was replaced with a shorter shaft. “Keep the wound clean. Make sure the bar is short so food and bacteria won’t enter the site,” advises Ellis Neiburger, DDS, lead author of the study. “Replace the metal barbell heads with plastic ones.” The number of adults between ages 21 and 31 who have their tongue pierced continues to increase, notes Melvin K. Pierson, DDS, FAGD, AGD spokesperson, despite his efforts to educate his patients about the dangers.........
