White Rules This Season
All kind of garments are being subjected to the white-out. From crisply tailored pantsuits to the puff-sleeved empire dresses of Jane Austen, the freshness and innocence of white is everywhere. Designers find it easiest to work with the basic black and white, as the colors are very functional. After a Bohemian era of bright swirling pattern and Indian embroidery, white is being welcomed as a pure and calm change. Also, it works a sweet contrast to the long reigning surfeit of bubble-gum pink and frills......... Posted by: Jenn Permalink Source Phone Bag
"Not a mock-up, not a Photoshop project, not a character from the upcoming live-action Transformers movie - this bag really is a fully functional telephone. It kind of sucks that it's not actually a cell phone; it's a regular phone that you need to plug into a landline, but I guess it predates all that wireless business. The kitschy caller will set you back $295 from La Pochette, and it also comes in black. Still, you have to wonder who played matchmaker between the beautiful-yet-innocent handbag and the ruggedly handsome telephone, whose union produced this container-communicator hybrid, but they really have to be stopped before they discover the USB-device market. Too late!"......... Posted by: Jenn Permalink Source Britney Spears is Losing Hair
Britney has even started wearing large hats to cover her thinning tresses. She might be suffering from stress-related alopecia, specially when she has a useless husband who doesn't even help her with their baby. The singer - who gained 50lbs during her first pregnancy has been highly stressed and the real cause of her hair fall may be her constant fretting about getting slim and developing a new look for her return to pop. How can you lose weight honey, when you are having a baby one more time? Don't worry my blogs will help you fetch some good maternity wear as well as some hair care tips......... To keep Anthony happy there's no comments on people's footwear this week. Whenever we have unexpected hot weather in London there are people who get caught out and are still in fairly spring/wintery clothes and others who totally embrace the sun and expose as much as they can. There were two lots of flesh on display in the following set. Low Slung Twiggy Trousers This woman on the Piccadilly line wasn't really too bad. However the low slungness of her cropped Twiggy Trousers mean that she was exposing a bit of flesh in the middle of the carriage She's not remotely fat but you do have to be a bit careful with low slung trousers, however, when she sat next to me, I noticed the massive hole in her tights ![]() I wonder how long before she noticed, or someone said to her - "Err you have a hole in your tights". Err, you've got a little hole in your jeans This man would have made no apologies for his holey clothes I really thought this massive holes in your jeans look, was on the way out. But perhaps they were just his summer jeans and his way of exposing a bit of flesh. Pink and Black Tights This woman would clearly have no problems working out which way to wear her tights ![]() I really don't like those, mainly because it looks like she's leant against some pink railings. Americana Trousers However, the woman below looks as though she has leant against a giant comic book. ![]() There's really nothing nice I can say about this look. I'm sure the trousers cost her a bomb and they're by some designer, but that doesn't stop them from being vile. They reminded me a bit of the Pop Art Roy Lichtenstein shoes I saw last year, but at least they didn't take up so much of the woman's body. Teaming the trousers with the espadrille wedges with navy socks, may have seemed like a good idea. I can't really think of any type of shoes that would "go" with the trousers though. The mind boggles. Permalink Source: Sony KDE-W50A12U 50in plasma TV
In case you haven't heard, the KDE-W50A12U is the last plasma TV Sony is ever going to build. The Japanese megacorp announced recently that it was now going to focus exclusively on LCD. So let's just hope that Sony's plasma swansong turns out to be more a fond farewell than a case of good riddance. The fond farewell option certainly seems more likely from the way the TV looks. It's truly a sight to behold with its sexy see-through glass strips to top and bottom, and bold blend of black and silver elsewhere. In fact, even though the set is already over 50in across, the design is so nice that we could happily have lived with even more of it! This style-meister's connectivity is mostly good, with one big disappointment. The good stuff includes HDMI and component sockets for digital and analogue HD sources respectively, three SCARTs (all of which, superbly, can take top-quality RGB signals), and a slot via which you can add subscription services to the set's built in digital tuner. The bad news is that there's no sign of any PC connectivity, shattering our dreams of playing World of Warcraft on a 50in scale. This really does seem a bit of an oversight on what is, after all, one of the costliest 50in plasma TVs in town. As you'd expect of a big flat panel TV costing in the region of £4k, the W50A12U is fully HD Ready, with its native pixel resolution coming in at 1,366 x 768. It can also handle the key HD format duo of 720p and 1080i, though 1080p is not an option......... Posted by: Jenn Permalink Source Fear Of 'cooties' Keeps Shoppers From The Till
"Consumer contact with products is a double-edged sword. Previous research has shown people like to touch products, but now we've found that they really don't like it if someone else has touched them first," said Dr. Jennifer Argo a professor in the University of Alberta School of Business. Argo and her colleagues found that not only were shoppers much less inclined to buy a shirt if they believed someone else had already touched it, shoppers also indicated that the value of the product had been diminished if they knew it had been touched. The scientists also determined that "disgust" was the underlying reason for the participants' opinions, and that the level of disgust increased as the perception of the extent to which the article had been touched or tried on also increased. The results of the research are published this month in the Journal of Marketing. The scientists constructed an elaborate experiment in the U of A bookstore that involved more than 200 participants. Argo instructed participants to enter the store and look for a specific t-shirt. The participants believed they were sent to evaluate marketing aspects of the store; however, they were, in fact, being set up for a survey to see if they wanted to buy the t-shirt......... Posted by: Jenn Permalink Source April 11, 2006, 6:27 PM CT London Underground Fashion VictimsFashion Victims on the TubeHere's our regular Friday look at commuters who are slaves to fashion or people who are taking a "trendy" style and "making it their own" regardless of whether it suits them or not. It's ladies week this week and I must admit I usually find fewer male fashion victims than female ones. Where's Wally Do you remember those books where you had to spot a character called Wally who wore stripy clothes in a crowd of people? Well this was definitely a case of spotting Wally's sister, who actually wasn't too hard to spot ![]() Ah there she is, inside the train and the man sitting next to her put his hand on her knee to stop her getting away ![]() I'm not sure what sort of shoes "go" with such stripy tights. Probably nothing, but at least keeping to black and white wasn't such an assault on the eyeballs. Metallica Speaking of assaults on the eyeballs ![]() The brown boots in the foreground are OK. The metallic boots on the left are, well, bearable I suppose. But blue metallic shoes! Jesus, what was she thinking when she bought them? I was particularly flabberghasted to see the chequered pattern on them and the black ribbon running round the edge, just to emphasise the hideousness of the blue. The shop assistant saw her coming, and thanks to that shop, now the rest of us can see her coming from a mile or so away. White Moccasins I promise not to go on about the fishnet tights, but purlease, black fishnets with white shoes. Fashion police where are you, when we need you? ![]() First Birkenstocks of the Year Hurrah, only last week we were talking about Birkenstock sandals and here's my first sighting of them in early April ![]() They look like a nice comfy pair too, but (ah the horror), she's wearing them with tights. This is the female equivalent of men wearing sandals with socks. However, when you look at her elegantly cut toenails it's hardly surprising she chose to cover up her feet a bit. Red Belts or Red Skirts I'm going to sound like someone's Mum here, but why do girls go out wearing skirts that are so short they could almost be belts? ![]() I'm not sure why the girls at Waterloo station had such an obsession with red either, perhaps they wanted to draw even more attention to themselves. "Women who had up to two drinks a day scored about 20 percent higher on the Mini Mental State Exam (MMSE) than women who didn't drink at all or who consumed less than one drink a week," said Clinton Wright, M.D., M.S., lead author of the study and assistant professor of neurology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York. "The difference remained after adjusting for risk factors such as income, marital status, race or ethnicity and other vascular risk factors such as hypertension and cardiac disease". The scientists said they were surprised by the lack of association between carotid plaque and alcohol consumption. Other research had suggested that alcohol consumption might slow the progression of plaque, the fatty material that builds up in arteries and increases the risk of heart attack and stroke. "This study suggests that the relationship between alcohol and cognition was not mediated by large vessel atherosclerosis," Wright said. "Future studies with brain imaging are planned to examine the importance of small vessel disease in this relationship"......... Posted by: Jenn Permalink Source Peep Into Eighteenth Century Design

This dress is made from a silk fabric known as "spitalfields," from an area in London where designers and weavers produced silks in a great variety of handsome patterns. Spitalfields fabrics can be dated quite precisely because of surviving records of the weaving designs. This dress can be dated around 1740, since the fabric was most likely woven in that year......... Posted by: Trista Permalink Older Blog Entries 1 2 |
